Mein Schiff Presented In Hamburg

TUI Cruises, the joint venture subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises and Germany’s TUI AG, has unveiled its first ship. The 76,522-GRT Mein Schiff, was named in the German city of Hamburg on 15 May 2009.

Constructed in 1996 as Galaxy for Celebrity Cruises, the 1914-guest ship sailed in Alaska, the Caribbean and in Europe until March 2009 before being transfered to TUI Cruises.

Following a 38-day drydock for an extensive refit, Mein Schiff now boasts facilities tailored to German guests, with more than half of the 962 cabins onboard now fitted with balconies. The vessel’s interior was also refurbished to now include 10 different restaurants, a Wii corner, business center and luxury spas.

Following a short inaugural cruise, Mein Schiff will operate 2- to 14-night cruises in the Baltic from ports such as Kiel, Hamburg and Palma de Mallorca, Spain during the 2009 summer season. The ship will reposition to the Caribbean in the winter, sailing itineraries from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
