Celebrity Mercury To Be Transfered To TUI Cruises As Mein Schiff 2

Celebrity Cruises has announced that the Celebrity Mercury will be transfered to sister cruise line TUI Cruises. The announcement confirms recent industry speculation that the 77,713-GRT vessel will become a sister ship to the Germany-based line’s Mein Schiff, itself a former Celebrity Cruises ship (Celebrity Galaxy) transfered in 2009.

To be renamed Mein Schiff 2, the 1,898-guest vessel will enter service with TUI Cruises in May 2011, following an extensive refurbishment to add verandahs, a new teen bar, an expanded spa and fitness area, design elements and other amenities to bring it in line with those found on Mein Schiff, which has proven popular with the German cruise market. She will spend her first season cruising the Baltic Sea and Scandinavia, with full schedules and itineraries to be published next month.

Celebrity Mercury will complete its scheduled sailings for Celebrity Cruises, with the last cruise taking place on 14 February 2011. Affected guests with bookings after this date will be contacted by the line and offered the option to cancel their booking or rebook to any sailing departing Baltimore onboard the vessel from 18 October 2010 to 14 February 2010, with the exception of her 20 December 2010 voyage. Celebrity Cruises will offer guests who rebook onboard credit ranging from USD 75 per stateroom to USD 200 per suite.

With the transfer of Celebrity Mercury, the Celebrity Century is the remaining ship in its class with Celebrity Cruises. For more information, visit www.celebritycruises.com and www.tuicruises.com.
