Holland America Line To Deploy 2 Ships To Asia Pacific For 2011/2012 Season

Holland America Line has announced that it will deploy 2 vessels to cruise the Asia Pacific region simultaneously in 2011/2012 for the first time. The 60,890-GRT ms Volendam and her sister ship ms Zaandam will offer a variety of itineraries ranging from 13 to 26 days, calling at some of the most popular and exotic ports in the region.

Following their North American seasons, the ships will undergo 26-day repositioning cruises from Vancouver (ms Volendam) and San Diego (ms Zaandam) in autumn 2011 to homeport in Sydney. ms Volendam’s itinerary takes it through Fiji, Hawaii, New Caledonia and Samoa, while ms Zaandam will take the same routing down the Pacific Ocean, sailing by the Kilauea volcano on one of the evenings.

14-day Australia, New Zealand Cruises

Both ships will sail a series of roundtrip cruises from Sydney, calling at ports in New Zealand including Auckland, the Bay of Islands, Christchurch, Dunedin, Half Moon Bay, Milford Sound, Napier, Tauranga and Wellington. A second itinerary departs from Sydney to Melbourne and Tasmania, before crossing to sail New Zealand’s east coast to finish in Auckland. Both routes take guests through the scenic Fiordland National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

13-/14-day South Pacific Sailings

Between December 2011 and February 2012, ms Volendam and ms Zaandam will cruise the tropical islands of the South Pacific, visiting Fiji’s Dravuni Island and Lautoka, Ile des Pins, Lifou, Mouli and Noumea in New Caledonia, as well as Port Vila, Vanuatu. Guests will be able to learn about the unique island cultures while soaking up the warm glow of the sun.

14-day Far East Voyages

When she completes her Australian and South Pacifc itineraries, ms Zaandam will sail a 16-day Great Barrier Reef Explorer Holiday Cruise through the Great Barrier Reef to Singapore. From there, the ship will offer 14-day cruises between Singapore and Hong Kong, making its way across the South China Sea via Cambodia, China, Thailand and Vietnam, with a 14-day China and Japan itinerary taking guests to Beijing, Busan, Dalian, Kobe, Nagasaki and Shanghai offered from Hong Kong. Extra time in port gives guests the opportunity to explore world-famous landmarks such as Halong Bay and Angkor Wat during the many shore excursion options available.

At the end of their deployment in April 2012, the 2 ships will return to North America with ms Volendam retracing her route on a 23-day itinerary through the South Pacific and Hawaii from Sydney. ms Zaandam will make a northern Pacific crossing from Kobe back to Vancouver, spending 22 days through the Japanese ports of Aomori, Hakodate, Kushiro, Otaru and Yokohama, as well as scenic cruising in Alaska’s Glacier Bay and Inside Passage.
