Universal Orlando Opens The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

Universal Studios Orlando has opened its latest attraction, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, within its Islands of Adventure park. Stars of the Harry Potter movies, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, James and Oliver Phelps, Warwick Davis, Bonnie Wright, Matthew Lewis and Tom Felton welcomed thousands of fans of the popular franchise, eager to experience the rides, shops and detailed reproductions of Hogsmeade, the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the Hogwarts Express steam train.

The highly anticipated minipark brings to life the adventures of the boy wizard that has captured the hearts and minds of millions around the world, with multiple themed attractions, shops and dining true to the books and films. At the heart of the attraction is the Hogwarts Castle, which is visible from everywhere within Islands of Adventure and houses the “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride. Visitors will travel by Floo Network soaring over Hogwarts, narrowly escape a dragon attack, experience a close encounter with the Whomping Willow and more. Next, the “Flight of the Hippogriff” awaits, as visitors take instructions from Hagrid before spiraling and diving around the pumpkin patch.

Over at Hogsmeade, guests can search for novelty items, jokes and toys at Zonko’s Joke Shop, taste the colourful sweets such as Acid Pops, Exploding Bonbons, Cauldron Cakes and Chocolate Frogs at Honeydukes, share a pint of Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks tavern before taking on the “Dragon’s Challenge” duelling rollercoasters. Afterwards, they can head over to Ollivanders, where the wandkeepers help the wand choose them and complete their collection of magical items at Dervish and Bangles, or send postcards and letters from the Owl Post, a functioning post office.

Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is included in the ticket for Islands of Adventure. The park is open daily from 0900 hrs to 2200 hrs through 14 August 2010, with closing times varying after this date.
