Allure of the Seas Named By Princess Fiona

The 3D star of DreamWorks Animation’s hit film series “Shrek”, Princess Fiona, was unveiled as the godmother to Royal Caribbean International’s highly-anticipated Allure of the Seas, cementing the ship’s naming ceremony in maritime history. Approximately 3,500 guests joined company executives at the event, part of a 1-night inaugural celebration fundraiser benefiting United Way of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Haitian relief efforts and other charities.

Held at the ship’s main Amber Theater and broadcasted live throughout the vessel, as well as via streaming video on the internet, the festivities included the customary bagpipe-and-drums procession, a performance of the US national anthem by international recording artist and theatre star MiG Ayesa and a scene from the line’s new aerial production “Blue Planet”. Showing off Allure of the Seas’ new 3D theater experience, the ceremony culminated with the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle (featuring a festive label specially created by pop artist Romero Britto) against the ship’s hull when Princess Fiona executed a swift karate chop to electronically activate the mechanism.

At 225,282-GRT, Allure of the Seas is matched in size only by her sister ship, Oasis of the Seas, and carries 5,400 guests in her 2,700 staterooms, including 28 ultra-modern loft suites. Encompassing the neighbourhoods concept, she offers a cache of distinct new onboard amenities and activities in 7 themed areas, including specialty restaurants Samba Grill, Rita’s Cantina, the Boardwalk Dog House and the world’s first Starbucks at sea. For entertainment, guests of all ages will be spoilt for choice with the Tony Award-winning “Chicago: The Musical”, in-house productions “Blue Planet” and “OceanAria” performed onboard, 3D movie screenings, as well as the “How to Train Your Dragon ice show” and “Madagascar Aqua Show” of the DreamWorks Experience.

Homeported at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Allure of the Seas sails alternate 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, calling at Charlotte Amalie, Costa Maya, Cozumel, Falmouth, Nassau, Phillipsburg and Royal Caribbean’s private beach destination Labadee.
