Virgin America Jets Into Chicago

California-based Virgin America has commenced services to Chicago, injecting a dose of healthy competition into the market dominated by legacy carriers. Local officials and Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson (dressed as prizefighter “Bruiser Branson”) were at O’Hare International Airport to greet guests arriving onboard the inaugural flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles to the Windy City yesterday.


Double Daily Los Angeles – Chicago (O’Hare)

The airline will offer passengers the option of day and evening services on the Los Angeles – Chicago route.


For the former, flight VX 810 departs Los Angeles at 1205 hrs, arriving in Chicago at 1810 hrs. On the return leg, flight VX 811 takes off from O’Hare International Airport at 0845 hrs to land at Los Angeles International Airport at 1100 hrs.


Evening services will operate as flight VX 816, departing Los Angeles at 1755 hrs and arriving in Chicago at 2345 hrs. The return flight, VX 815, takes off from O’Hare International Airport at 1915 hrs for a 2135 hrs arrival into Los Angeles International Airport.


Triple Daily San Francisco – Chicago (O’Hare)

Virgin America is offering a morning, afternoon and evening departure for guests on its San Francisco – Chicago roundtrips.


Flight VX 830 departs San Francisco at 0655 hrs, arriving in Chicago at 1305 hrs. In the opposite direction, flight VX 833 takes off from O’Hare International Airport at 0700 hrs to land at San Francisco International Airport at 0930 hrs.


The second flight, VX 836, leaves California at 1025 hrs to touch down in Illinois at 1640 hrs. Heading westward, flight VX 837 departs Chicago at 1405 hrs, arriving in San Francisco at 1635 hrs.


From San Francisco International Airport, flight VX 840 takes off at 1635 hrs and lands at O’Hare International Airport at 2245 hrs. The last departure each day from Chicago, flight VX 841 leaves at 1735 hrs, arriving in San Francisco at 2010 hrs.


Virgin America will operate its 3-class Airbus A320 aircraft on both routes, with onward connections to and from Las Vegas, San Diego and Seattle. Offering mood-lit cabins, custom-designed leather seats and an advanced inflight entertainment system featuring live television and wireless internet access, the jets promise an upscale flying experience at a fraction of the price.
