Seabourn Quest Named In Barcelona

Luxury cruise line the Yachts of Seabourn has welcomed the newest addition to its fleet today with the official naming of the Seabourn Quest. Award-winning actress Blythe Danner served as godmother to the ship, presiding over a glittering sunset ceremony held in Barcelona that culminated in a spectacular fireworks display against the city skyline.

Guests booked on the ship’s maiden voyage were treated to performances by the full orchestra arrayed on either side of the swimming pool. As part of the festivities, they witnessed crew members who had served in the start-up teams of the line’s last 3 ship launches break confetti-filled champagne bottles on deck in a synchronized wave pattern while the bottle of champagne crashed against Seabourn Quest’s bow.

The third iteration of the sleek design hailed as a game-changer for the luxury cruise segment that first appeared as the Seabourn Odyssey in June 2009 and followed by the Seabourn Sojourn in June 2010, the vessel offers 225 luxurious suites (90 percent with private verandas), 4 fine dining restaurants, 6 bars and lounges (including the Seabourn Square concierge lounge), a spacious luxury spa, 2 swimming pools, 6 whirlpools and a unique marina for watersports activities.

Seabourn Quest departed on her 14-day maiden voyage to Athens following the christening ceremony. Her inaugural season includes 7-day Eastern Mediterranean cruises alternating between Athens, Istanbul and Venice, as well as a 7-day Black Sea voyage. In Fall 2011, she will cross the Atlantic Ocean to sail a series of roundtrip Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale before embarking on a 109-day World Cruise travelling eastbound with visits to South America, South Africa, the Mediterranean, Middle East, Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.
