Soft-Opening For Ian Schrager’s Public Chicago

Legendary hotelier Ian Schrager’s newest venture, Public Hotels, has soft-opened its first property. A complete transformation of the famed Ambassador East Hotel in central Chicago, the 285-room Public Chicago has been designed to mix elements of luxury, boutique and select service accommodations. Featuring simple, chic decor and a relaxed vibe, the hotel is envisioned to become a fashionable spot for travellers and Chicago’s social set.

The generously scaled guestrooms and suites are simple yet stylish with a soothing monochromatic colour palette and hand-picked furniture. Guests rest in comfort in the large beds with luxury Frette linens, down comforters and pillows, complemented by the elegant bathrooms boasting custom corian sinks and marble mosaic floors. A 55-inch LCD television, iPod docking station and complimentary high-speed internet access provide a multitude of entertainment options, while other amenities include a large work area and custom minibar.

World renowned chef and 2011 James Beard award winner Jean-Georges Vongerichten has created a new food concept in the Pump Room. Retaining the iconic name of the former establishment, the restaurant offers a “farm-to-table” experience and a daily chef’s special tasting menu, before transforming into a supper club recapturing the glamour of the 1930s and 1940s with a modern twist. The Library, reminiscent of a classic 1950s American and European coffee houses, offers a wide variety of exotic coffees, bakeries and light bites that can be enjoyed at the large communal table or by the custom limestone fireplace. By night, the room evolves into a sexy lounge, wine and beer garden.

Public Chicago’s social spaces, designed to encourage interaction, include The Living Room and The Screening Room. The former occupies lobby space and is outfitted with communal work tables and comfortable seating areas that double as a self-serve business center or guest lounge, while the latter features a 110-inch screen for enjoying movies, videos, recitals or musical performances and is ideally suited for private events.
