Sofitel Legend Opens Third Property

Sofitel Legend, Accor’s collection of luxury heritage properties, has opened its third hotel in Egypt along the shores of the River Nile. Housed in a Victorian building dating back to 1899, the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan reopens following an extensive 3-year renovation and restoration.

French interior designer Sybille de Margerie combined Victorian, French and Middle Eastern styles to ressurect the hotel’s romanticism and mythic luxury. Named after its location at the point where the River Nile’s first cataract was formed, the hotel has accommodated many famous individuals from Sir Winston Churchill and The Aga Khan to Agatha Christie, King Farouk and former French president Francois Mitterand.

2 different wings provide varying experiences to guests of the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan. The Palace Wing, comprising 76 guestrooms and suites, preserves the history and charm with Byzantine-style striped arches and motifs, while the Nile Wing’s 62 guestrooms and suites exude contemporary elegance with private balconies and bathrooms overlooking the river. Each accommodation features exquisite woodwork, fabrics and is furnished with the signature Sofitel My Bed, marble bathroom with separate bathtub and shower accompanied by French amenities, LCD television, high-speed internet access, voicemail telephone, in-room safe and minibar.

Famed for its Qualaun crypt and outstanding decor, the legendary 1902 Fine Dining Restaurant offers international and oriental creations in an exotic ambience while Al Saraya’s brasserie-style dining makes for a relaxed meal by the River Nile. Mediterranean favorites can be had at the Oriental Kebabgy Restaurant, with light meals and cocktails available at the Palms Pool Restaurant. 4 bars (La Terrasse, Promenade, The Bar and Yasmin Vitamin Bar & Lounge) command breathtaking views that provide the perfect backdrop for social gatherings over fine whiskeys and cocktails.

A series of meeting rooms can accommodate up to 50 guests for private meetings and intimate gatherings, while leisure guests can enjoy the range of recreational and wellness facilities at the hotel. The brand’s signature So Spa opens its latest outpost where skilled therapists create a revitalizing experience. Guests can also take a leisurely swim in the heated and unheated swimming pools, soak in the jacuzzi or a workout in the gymnasium before finishing in the hammam.

Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan joins the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi and Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam as the collection continues to expand worldwide. In 2012, Sofitel Legend Cartagena Santa Clara in Colombia will launch as the collection’s fourth property.
