AirAsia Launches Loyalty Programme

Malaysian low cost carrier AirAsia has launched a new loyalty scheme allowing travellers to earn and redeem points with the airline and its partners. Called “BIG”, the programme is a joint venture between AirAsia and Tune Money, the financial services arm of parent company Tune Group.


Membership is borderless and open to anyone aged 2 years and above, with a joining fee of MYR 10 and annual fees of 500 “BIGGIE” points or MYR 5 as well as 6 times usage each year. Every member (affectionately known as a BIG Shot) is issued a card bearing their name and unique membership number, which doubles as a prepaid payment card for use at all VISA accepted merchants worldwide. 


“BIGGIES” are earned when spending on AirAsia flights and partner services, including stays at Tune Hotels, Concorde Hotels & Resorts, Hard Rock Hotel and The Boutique Collection, car rentals from Avis, Budget and Hertz, as well as the ShopBIG online shopping service. Other partners slated to come onboard include Citibank, credit cards from Diners Club, AEON, KBank and Indonesian telecommunications company Indosat.


Redemptions are available from 500 to 30,000 “BIGGIES”, with a unique feature of the scheme being that members with insufficient points can top-up the difference with cash. AirAsia is opening up all seats for redemption with no blackout dates, but rates will vary according to demand, while lifestyle products and services can also be redeemed at the programme partners.
