Cathay Pacific Reveals Premium Economy Class Details, Announces New Economy Class Seat

Cathay Pacific Airways has revealed the details of its much-anticipated Premium Economy product, which will debut on long-haul services in March 2012. The Hong Kong-based airline also took the opportunity to announce a next-generation Economy Class seat promising greater legroom for passengers.

Premium Economy Class

Intended to offer good value to travellers, Cathay Pacific’s new Premium Economy Class will feature a quieter, more spacious cabin. 26 to 34 seats will be available on each flight, with a seat pitch of 38 inches (6 inches more than Economy Class), better seat width and recline. Each seat will have a large meal table, cocktail table, footrest, 10.6-inch personal screen, in-seat power, multi-port connector and extra storage space.

Passengers will be welcomed onboard each flight with juice and champagne, as well as enjoy an enhanced meal selection and additional snack choices that include bottled water, fresh fruit, energy bar and dessert. An environmentally-friendly amenity kit, comprising a dental kit, socks and eyeshades complement the cabin’s larger pillows and noise-cancelling headsets to enhance passenger comfort.

On the ground, dedicated counters will be available for Premium Economy Class passengers, who will also enjoy an  increased baggage allowance of 25 kilograms (weight system) or 2 pieces of baggage (piece system). At the boarding gate, passengers will have priority boarding before Economy Class passengers.

Cathay Pacific will install the new product on its entire long-haul fleet, comprising Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 747-400, Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A340-300 aircraft. The product will initially be introduced on routes between Hong Kong and New York, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver, before being progressively extended to continental Europe, London (Heathrow), Los Angeles, San Francisco and other long-haul destinations.

New Economy Class Seat

Designed for improved living space and more personal storage, Cathay Pacific’s new long-haul Economy Class seat will offer a better seat width than the current product. While seat pitch remains the same at 32 inches, the cradle mechanism in the next-generation seat improves recline for better comfort. Inflight entertainment is provided via the high-resolution touchscreen personal monitors, while USB and iPod connectivity allows passengers the flexibility to view their own content.

The airline will be fitting the new seats on 36 Boeing 777-300ER and 26 Airbus A330-300 jets, with Sydney and Toronto the first destinations to offer the product from March 2012.
