Star Cruises Plans Refurbishment For SuperStar Virgo

Asian cruise operator Star Cruises today revealed plans to refurbish its flagship, the 76,800-GRT SuperStar Virgo, in January 2012. A 3-week, USD 25 million drydock has been scheduled for the vessel, during which her accommodations will be redesigned, restaurants and public areas renovated, while the hull will be refreshed with new artwork.

New Layout Accommodations for Greater Comfort

The ship’s 935 cabins and staterooms will be redesigned, together with the use of ergonomic furnishings, to maximize the internal space for cruisers. More vivid colours lend a touch of vibrancy to the accommodations, which will also receive new amenities including bedding, carpeting, flatscreen televisions and upholstery.

Restyled Restaurants

Offering one of the most comprehensive selections of restaurants and dining outlets at sea, the refreshed SuperStar Virgo is set to continue celebrating the much-loved Asian tradition of feasting. Her signature Blue Lagoon restaurant serving Southeast Asian favorites will feature ripple-shaped wall coverings and ceilings, while The Pavilion gains 2 new private dining rooms styled after the dining courts of imperial China. Mediterranean Buffet and Terrace will gain sun-drenched colours in its decor, with the renovated Champagne Bar Bellini and Taverna providing sophisticated venues for drinks and live entertainment.

Dynamic Hull Art and Restored Public Spaces

In line with the rest of the Star Cruises fleet, SuperStar Virgo will wear new hull artwork when she emerges from her refresh. The ship’s former all-white facade will be replaced by a depiction of her namesake Virgo, the goddess of the harvest, gliding amongst colourful light rays and lending a new dimension of fun.

Inside, her public spaces are to receive a makeover with new carpeting and wallpapers, while hints of gold and golden fittings located throughout the ship add a touch of opulence. The majestic Grand Piazza, with its 3 signature golden horse statues, will be restored and feature a seagull-shaped European art installation.

Upon completion of her drydock upgrade, SuperStar Virgo will return to service in Singapore on 23 January 2012. She resumes her varied itineraries of 2-, 3- and 5-night sailings visiting ports including Langkawi, Malacca, Penang, Phuket, Port Klang and Redang, as well as the popular 1- and 2-night cruises to nowhere.
