Thompson Hotels Makes UK Debut With The Belgraves

Thompson Hotels, the US-based hotel collection, has made its European debut with the opening of its newest property in the UK. Located in London’s affluent Belgravia neighbourhood, the 85-room Belgraves is minutes from internationally-renowned shopping and the bustling Sloane Square. Blending traditional British hospitality with American bohemian attitude, the property features bold interior design from acclaimed British designer Tara Bernerd, with a large fireplace and several seating alcoves in the large lobby.

Described as “today’s rough luxury”, the accommodations are adorned with silver grey wooden floors and a palette of greys and aubergine on the walls. Ranging from the 23-square meter Superior room to the 70-square meter Penthouse, each is furnished with modern amenities including King-size or twin beds with 400-threadcount Sferra linens, marble bathroom with walk-in shower, LCD television with ipod docking station, high-speed internet access and workstation. The latter also incorporates a separate living area, a working fireplace and an oversized outdoor terrace.

Chef Mark Hix’s latest establishment, HIX Belgravia, departs from his signature British style by showcasing a collection of favorite dishes inspired by his travels around the world. The dining experience promises to also be a visual feast, with specially commissioned artworks from British artists including Miranda Donovan, Rachel Howard and Mat Collishaw adorning the walls. Mark’s Bar pays homage to its award-winning sister establishment in Soho and boasts one of London’s most eminent cocktail lists designed by master mixologist Nick Strangeway, together with a stylish smoking garden where guests can indulge in the bar’s cigar menu.

Business travellers and meeting planners will find a boardroom on the first floor of the hotel, providing opportunities for private meetings or dining for up to 22 guests. For recreation, a state-of-the-art gymnasium provides an energetic start to the day.

With the opening of the Belgraves, Thompson Hotels’ portfolio now covers 13 properties in Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Toronto and Washington DC. The company also counts 33 properties from San Francisco-based Joie de Vivre Hospitality as affiliates, following a merger between both operators in October 2011.
