Viceroy Maldives Opens

USA-based hotel management company Viceroy Hotel Group has opened the intimate Viceroy Maldives resort. Set on the pristine Vagaru Island in Shaviyani Atoll, the property is less than an hour by seaplane from Male and combines seclusion with luxury within a spectacular locale.

Award-winning design firm Yabu Pushelberg drew inspiration from the natural beauty and culture of the Maldives to create a minimalist, calming atmosphere within the 61 private villas shaped like the hull of an inverted Maldivian dhoni. Featuring some of the most spacious accommodations in the region at 120 to over 280 square meters, each is furnished with luxury bedding, outdoor rainforest shower, flatscreen television with home theatre system, high-speed internet access, plunge pool, terrace and sundeck, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities.

Viceroy Maldives’ 5 dining concepts are presided over by Executive Chef Kai Eick, who brings with him extensive culinary experience from top European resorts and restaurants. The signature restaurant, Cerchio, offers a modern interpretation of fine Italian cuisine paired with fine vintages from the wine cellar, AOC. True to its name, Vista presents panoramas of the swimming pool and lagoon as guests indulge in an abundance of international dishes, while the Anguru pool bar & grill’s private cabanas are perfect for lounging the day to fresh seafood and fine cuts. On the southernmost tip of the island lies The Treehouse, a venue that lures guests with its exotic Middle Eastern mezzes accompanied by drinks and shisha.

Guests in search of revitalization will find a sanctuary at the resort’s signature spa. Balanced between the sound of the sea and the horizon’s edge, curated programs and treatments encompassing specialized massage techniques, yoga practices and dietary guidance are available to guide one to a state of complete renewal. The extensive fitness pavilion, with its cardio and strength equipment, is perfect for warming up in the mornings before engaging in the array of watersport activities or reef diving at the PADI-certified dive centre.

Viceroy Maldives becomes the ninth property to join the Viceroy Hotels & Resorts portfolio, which is also represented in Abu Dhabi, Anguilla, Miami, Palm Springs, Riviera Maya, Santa Monica, Snowmass and Zihuatanejo, with new hotels and resorts under development in Beverly Hills, Bodrum and St. Lucia.
