Starwood Opens The Westin Xian

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced the debut of its wellness-focused Westin brand in Xian, one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Located in the heart of the Qujiang Tourism Holiday Development District (once the site of the Tang dynasty’s Royal Summer Garden), the 329-room Westin Xian is steps away from the city’s cultural attractions, shopping and dining.

Designed by Neri & Hu Design, the property is part of a 60-acre complex comprising a shopping mall and the adjacent Xian Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts boasting a collection of over 2,000 artifacts. The main building showcases architectural style from the Tang dynasty, featuring a covered porch and garden courtyard leading to the intimate lobby.

Each guestroom and suite is dedicated to creating a holistic experience that revives the mind, body and spirit. Expansive windows reveal panoramas of the surrounding city as guests indulge in signature brand offerings such as the Westin Heavenly Bed, bathroom with Westin Heavenly Bath and Shower, 37-inch LCD television, high-speed internet access, speaker telephone, data ports, executive workdesk, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities. The property also offers 32 one- and two-bedroom apartments for guests requiring more space or long-term accommodation options.

The Westin Xian’s array of restaurants and lounges present culinary delights and moments for guests and locals alike. Seasonal Tastes’ international buffet spread brings the world’s cuisines to Xian, while specialized options include the elegant Cantonese restaurant Zen5es presenting some of the best Chinese cooking, as well as the freshest sashimi at Mai. Freshly-baked pastries and delicatessen items accompany gourmet coffees and specialty teas at Daily Treats, while the casual sophistication of the Lobby Lounge is perfect for spending evenings relaxing or catching up with friends over a cocktail or the hot Westin Jing Tea.

15 versatile meeting spaces, including a stately Grand Ballroom and 2 Junior Ballrooms, offer 1,450 square meters of convention space for every occasion, aided by state-of-the-art audio-visual and conferencing technology. For recreation, the Heavenly Spa infuses Chinese-inspired philosophy with modern techniques and remedies to help guests unwind and discover moments of beauty and tranquility during their travels. An indoor swimming pool and the brand’s WestinWORKOUT gymnasium offer solutions to guests who are committed to keeping an active lifestyle on the road.

The Westin Xian joins 12 other sister properties in China, with the brand set to grow further next month when The Westin Xiamen opens in the southern Chinese city. Starwood is currently developing another 9 Westin-branded properties in the country, including The Westin Changbaishan Resort, its first ski resort and due to open in the second half of 2012.
