Virgin Atlantic Launches New Upper Class Suite

Virgin Atlantic Airways has revealed its new Upper Class suite, promising greater comfort and luxury. Passengers onboard flights VS 003 and VS 004 between London (Heathrow) and New York (John F. Kennedy) yesterday were amongst the first to experience the new product, making its operational debut on the airline’s Airbus A330-300 jet.

Using the previous-generation Upper Class Suite and the herringbone configuration as a starting point, Virgin Atlantic combined 4 years of research, development and testing to evolve the product. Espresso-coloured leather upholstery works with the mood lighting and a new translucent panel to create an inviting yet private space, with an additional 1.5 inches of seat width and 50 percent more recline, while the entire seat transforms into a 87-inch full-flat bed to ensure a comfortable rest inflight.

Each suite features a 12.1-inch touchscreen monitor delivering content from the new JAM inflight entertainment system, with the entire system controlled via a touchscreen handset first introduced with the airline’s new Premium Economy product. USB and iPod connectivity, in-seat power supply and the AeroMobile inflight mobile and internet system lets passengers stay connected throughout the flight.

Storage space is improved with a new literature pocket and 2 handy ottoman solutions. Other amenities new to the seat include a flip-down cocktail table, push-panel armrest and a fully-adjustable reading light.

Frequent fliers will be glad to know that Virgin Atlantic’s popular onboard bar remains, but has now been shifted forward separate from the main cabin. Providing ample space to sit and socialize, the area continues the stylish, uplifting interior decor with splashes of red, purple and Swarovski crystal accents.

The new Upper Class Suite follows a series of other enhancements Virgin Atlantic has implemented in recent times to its premium offering, including improved amenity kits, clubhouses, dining and ground services. Currently available on the London (Heathrow) – New York (John F. Kennedy) route, the product will be progressively introduced on transcontinental flights as the airline receives more A330s and the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners on-order.
