Holland America Line Announces 2012/2013 South America Deployment

Holland America Line has announced the deployment of the ms Maasdam, ms Prinsendam and the ms Veendam to South America for the 2012/2013 winter cruise season. Together, the 3 ships will offer a range of popular itineraries ranging from 13 to 68 nights and visiting major ports on the continent, as well as explorations of Antarctica.

 

ms Maasdam

Departing Fort Lauderdale on 18 January 2013, the 1,258-passenger ms Maasdam brings cruisers on a 23-night Amazon and Carnaval Explorer sailing to Rio de Janeiro. She first cruises the western Caribbean, calling at Key West, Georgetown, Oranjestad, Willemstad, Bonaire, Port of Spain and Scarborough, before following the coast at Devil’s Island in French Guiana and crossing the equator into Brazilian waters. The ship then visits Belem, Recife, Maceio, Vitoria and Ilhabela enroute.

 

ms Maasdam begins her 26-night return to Fort Lauderdale with 3 days in Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval. She sails out of the city at 1700 hrs, arriving at Armacao dos Buzios the next morning, followed by calls at Salvador de Bahia and Fortaleza. The ship then enters the Amazon River, spending a week visiting Santarem, Boca da Valeria, Manaus, Parintins and Alter Do Chao, before cruising the eastern Caribbean to Bridgetown, Roseau and Philipsburg.

 

ms Prinsendam

Like her fleetmate, ms Prinsendam sails out of Fort Lauderdale, traversing the Caribbean Sea to Castries and Soufriere in St. Lucia, from where she arrives in Devil’s Island after a day at sea. Leaving the coast and entering the Amazon River, the ship visits Macapa, Santarem, Boca da Valeria, Manaus, Parintins and Alter Do Chao. Tracking north after her return to the coast, ms Prinsendam will arrive in Bridgetown after 2 days at sea and returns back to Fort Lauderdale via Bonaire.

 

ms Veendam

From 20 October 2012, ms Veendam repositions from Boston to South America on a 18-night cruise to Valparaiso via the Panama Canal, which can be combined with a 13-night sailing on 7 November 2012 from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires for a 31-night voyage to the Argentine capital. Between November 2012 and March 2013, she will also operate a series of cruises ranging from 13 to 21 nights between the Chilean port and Rio de Janeiro, traversing the Chilean fjords, visiting Ushuaia, the Magellan Strait and rounding Cape Horn.

 

Cruisers also have the chance to take in the breathtaking sights of Antarctica onboard ms Veendam during her 20-/21-night Antarctic Explorer voyages. Departing from Valparaiso, Buenos Aires or Rio de Janeiro, the sailings include scenic cruising of the Antarctic Sound, Wilhelm Archipelago, Drake Passage, Beagle Channel and Glacier Alley, with calls to Montevideo and Port Stanley.

 

Concluding her deployment, ms Veendam returns to Boston on 13 April 2013 with a 21-night repositioning cruise. Sailing up the Chilean, Peruvian and Ecuadorian coast, travellers will be able to experience the vibrancy and culture of South America and the Caribbean with stops at Coquimbo, Callao, Salaverry, Manta, Fuerte Amador, San Blas Islands, Cartagena, Falmouth, Georgetown and Fort Lauderdale enroute.
