InterContinental Expands In Vietnam

Travellers to the central Vietnamese city of Danang now have even greater choice for accommodation with the opening of a new luxury resort. Nestled within rainforest-covered mountain slopes and the South China Sea in a natural amphitheatre, the Bill Bensley-designed InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort becomes the third property for the brand in Vietnam.

Taking 6 years to design and build, the 197-room resort features a rich earthy colour template and bold features that marry traditional and contemporary aesthetics with the pristine surrounding landscape. The guestrooms, suites and beachfront villas take full advantage of the property’s location, incorporating large terraces and shuttered windows to draw in the outdoors. Inside, guests are pampered with luxurious bedding, a grand bathroom with separate rainforest shower and stone bathtub, flatscreen television, high-speed internet access, direct-dial telephone, workdesk, in-room safe, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities.

In a first for Vietnam, 3-Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux lends his expertise in French cuisine to the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort’s signature restaurant, La Maison 1888. Complementing it are Citron, where artisanal cuisine meets unique dining spaces in the form of inverted traditional Vietnamese conical hats, as well as the relaxed ambiance of the Barefoot Cafe. 2 bars, the elegant Buffalo Bar and the poolside L_o_n_g Bar, offer exquisite venues to relax and take in the beauty of Southeast Asia.

11 meeting rooms, including The Great Hall accommodating up to 250 guests, are equipped with modern audio-visual techology and supported by the full-service business centre. Recreation options are spearheaded by the Spa InterContinental, where a variety of treatments and therapies are available to rejuvenate and revitalize. The Soar gymnasium and outdoor swimming pools cater to guests seeking a workout away from home, while crystal clear waters lap at the private beach steps away. Younger guests will also be entertained at InterContinental’s signature Planet Trekkers kids club.

The InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort joins the Crowne Plaza Danang as IHG’s second property in the city. The company is currently developing the Crowne Plaza Nha Trang, scheduled to open in 2013 and will take its Vietnamese portfolio to 6 hotels and resorts.
