The Ampersand Hotel In London Reopens

Inspired by London’s world-famous museum district and originally built in 1888, The Ampersand Hotel has reopened following an extensive refurbishment and restoration. Located on Harrington Road, the building formerly housed The Norfolk Hotel, one of London’s original Victorian boutique establishments that was set apart by its character and distinction.

The interior design revolves around 5 themes (botany, music, geometry, ornithology and astronomy), uniting guests to the vibe of the surrounding South Kensington neighbourhood. Each of the 111 guestrooms and suites are intimate yet luxurious, offering comforts and conveniences including luxury bedding, modern bathroom with walk-in shower, LCD television, media hub, complimentary high-speed Internet access, workstation, in-room safe, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities.

Tucked beneath The Ampersand’s cellar arches, Apero is an intimate, laid-back Mediterranean restaurant that presents the creations of head chef Chris Golding paired with traditional Aperitivo-style drinks, including the “Browning’s Rapture” – a mix of Sipsmith gin, Galliano L’Authentico, fino Sherry and celery bitters. Defined by its polished basalt floor and oak wood banqueting table, The Wine Room exudes a dignified ambiance in which to taste fine wines with like-minded souls or host private gatherings. French finesse meets British tradition at The Drawing Rooms, where guests can enjoy afternoon tea while relaxing on the deep sofas and studded armchairs.

2 meeting venues, The Library and The Games Room, offer cozy spaces for small-scale meetings or functions. The latter features table tennis, which guests are welcome to use when no events are held, in addition to a fully-equipped gymnasium for recreation, while the concierge can arrange for off-site activities including horseriding and roller-blading.

The Ampersand becomes the latest luxury opening for London, which successfully hosted the 2012 Summer Olympic games. The hotel is affiliated with boutique collection Small Luxury Hotels of the World,  joining 8 other sister properties in the British capital.
