Star Cruises Prepares New Addition To Fleet

Leading Asian cruise line Star Cruises is gearing up for the addition of the new, 50,764-GRT SuperStar Gemini to its fleet, with the vessel scheduled to be refurbished in Singapore before entering service in early 2013. Formerly the Norwegian Dream, she will be completely overhauled with upgraded navigational systems, new hull design and onboard facilities catering to asian cruisers.

766 guest cabins in a variety of layouts including ergonomic oceanview staterooms, smartly-styled junior suites and deluxe executive suites accommodate 1,532 guests, while her restaurants will offer Asian, Chinese and international cuisines complemented by the popular open-deck barbecue. A show lounge, karaoke, spa & health club, beauty salon, children’s playroom and swimming pool provide entertainment and recreational options, with SuperStar Gemini’s extensive shopping area promises a broad range of upmarket duty-free luxury items such as wristwatches, jewellery, designer handbags, purses, perfumes, sunglasses, accessories and fashion items.

SuperStar Gemini will initially sail a series of 17 inaugural cruises from Penang in January 2013, calling at Krabi and Phuket, with a special 7-day cruise to Hong Kong via Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. She then operates out of Sanya on short itineraries calling at Danang, Halong Bay and Hong Kong, before repositioning to Shanghai to offer 4- to 7-day sailings to a number of highly popular destinations including Busan, Fukuoka, Ishigaki, Jeju, Keelung, Kumamoto, Nagasaki and Naha.

A number of special cross-strait chartered itineraries from Shanghai to Taiwan are planned, subject to approval by the authorities. These cruises are expected to be highly sought-after sailings drawing on the up-and-coming cruise markets in China and Taiwan, following which SuperStar Gemini will return to homeport in Sanya from mid-Oct 2013, calling at Vietnam ports amongst others.

SuperStar Gemini will join the line’s 4 existing vessels (SuperStar Virgo, SuperStar Aquarius, SuperStar Libra and Star Pisces) in offering holiday experiences for guests from Asia-Pacific and beyond.
