Qatar Airways Receives First Dreamliner

Qatar Airways has received its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, becoming the first Middle Eastern operator of the revolutionary aircraft. Registered A7-BCB, the composite jet was handed over by manufacturer Boeing at its Seattle factory to the award-winning carrier and will be repositioned to Doha for the start of revenue service.

First unveiled at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow, the Qatar Airways Dreamliners are configured with 254 seats in 2 cabin classes. Business Class features 22 leather armchairs that convert into full-flat beds in a 1-2-1 layout, while 232 Economy Class seats German manufacturer Recaro offer added comfort and personal space. All seats will also have access to a touchscreen inflight entertainment system with over 1,000 on-demand movies, television programmes, music and USB connectivity (see here).

Dubai, Delhi, London (Heathrow) and Zurich have been announced as destinations to be served by the aircraft in the initial phase of service. The airline will also deploy the jet on additional routes as more B787s join the fleet.

The Dreamliner is set to form a mainstay of Qatar Airways’ next-generation long-haul fleet, with 60 aircraft on-order. To celebrate the arrival of the first airframe, the Oneworld member-designate has posted a video showing the assembly process of the jet on its Facebook page and Youtube channel.
