Resorts World Sentosa Opens S.E.A Aquarium And Adventure Cove Waterpark

Visitors to Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa can now experience new underwater perspectives at the world’s largest oceanarium. The integrated resort added the Marine Life Park (comprising the S.E.A Aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark) to its stable of attractions today.

Housing more than 100,000 marine animals in 45 million liters of water, the S.E.A Aquarium features 49 habitats imitating different areas in Southeast Asia. The highlight is the Open Ocean habitat, which houses the largest viewing panel (36 meters wide and 8.3 meters high) in the world to take in views of the swimming manta rays, hammerhead sharks and various fishes.

Opening at a later date is the aquarium’s Dolphin Lagoon habitat which will house the controversial Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins. Park management and animal rights activists have been in disagreement over the handling and care of 25 wild dolphins captured for the attraction, with the latter lobbying for the marine mammals to be returned to the wild.

The Adventure Cove Waterpark offers no less than 7 water slides, amongst them the Riptide Rocket, Southeast Asia’s first hydromagnetic coaster that sends riders up and down inclines and around sharp curves. Other attractions include the Bluwater Bay wave pool, a 620-meter meandering Adventure River, Rainbow Reef habitat and an interactive Ray Bay.

Resorts World Sentosa’s Marine Life Park is open daily from 1000 hrs to 1800 hrs. From 8 December 2012, operating hours will be extended by an additional hour to close at 1900 hrs. Tickets are priced at SGD 29 for adults and SGD 20 for children and senior citizens for admission to the S.E.A. Aquarium or Adventure Cove Waterpark.
