Etihad To Start Amsterdam Flights, Expand Partnership With KLM

The national airline of the UAE, Etihad Airways, has announced plans for an expansion in Europe. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will begin daily flights to Amsterdam as part of a larger cooperation with Dutch airline KLM, becoming the second Gulf carrier to serve the city after rival Emirates.

Daily Abu Dhabi – Amsterdam Service

Beginning 15 May 2013, flight EY 077 will depart Abu Dhabi at 0930 hrs, arriving in Amsterdam at 1340 hrs. The return flight, EY 078, takes off from Schipol International Airport at 2200 hrs to land back at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 0635 hrs the next morning. Etihad will operate a 2-class Airbus A330-200 jet, configured with 22 Pearl business and 240 Coral economy class seats, on the route.

Enhanced Codeshare Agreement

KLM will codeshare on the service and also increase its existing 5 times weekly Amsterdam – Abu Dhabi flights (which Etihad already codeshares) to daily, offering passengers a combined schedule of double daily flights between the UAE and Netherlands. The enhanced cooperation will also see Etihad codeshare on KLM flights to Aberdeen, Barcelona, Bergen, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Leeds, Madrid, Nice, Stockholm and Toronto, while KLM will place its code on Etihad’s flights to Baghdad, Basra, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Dhaka, Erbil, Hyderabad, Kathmandu, Male, Peshawar, the Seychelles and Thiruvananthapuram.

The main beneficiary of Etihad and KLM’s partnership will be its passengers, who will now enjoy greater flexibility and convenience when flying between Europe and the Middle East. Travellers also gain new hub airports from which they can leverage the airlines’ network strengths and facilities.
