Anantara Opens New Resort In Yunnan

Thailand’s Anantara Hotels & Resorts has opened its latest Chinese resort in Yunnan Province’s Xishuangbanna prefecture. The new Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort & Spa is the first and only 5-star property in the locale, where the unspoilt countryside and rich cultural experiences draw visitors from further afield in search of their own utopia.

Situated 45 minutes from Jinghong International Airport along a sweeping curve of the Luosuo River, the resort combines contemporary style with the surrounding natural scenery. Lush gardens and water features surround the 80 guestrooms and 23 pool villas, designed with hardwood flooring and marble features. Striking colours and intricate carvings from local communities add to the indigenous experience, while retaining the luxuries and conveniences of a modern resort.

With its location at the crossroads of Chinese, Laotian and Thai culture, dining at the Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort & Spa’s signature Mekong restaurant promises to expand culinary horizons with a view of the flowing river waters. Manfeilong’s all-day favorites are complemented by light salads and snacks at the Lotus Lounge and Luosuo poolside restaurant, while afternoons are best spent over tea at the Dai Lounge which transforms into a sophisticated whiskey bar and humidor in the evening.

A luxurious spa offers ancient herbal remedies and therapeutic treatments to guests, who are invited to unwind in the relaxation lounge and detox in the tropical stream cave. Double treatment suites with outdoor bathing rituals have been designed with couples in mind and allow guests to take in the natural beauty of the rugged landscape before heading out to explore and visit the local Dai, Hani and Jinuo people. Excursions from the resort include visits to a wild elephant sanctuary, the Manfeilong Pagodas and tea-picking with its own tea guru to learn about the centuries-old production process of Pu-erh tea.

Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort & Spa joins the Anantara Sanya Resort & Spa as the brand’s second location in China. A member of the Global Hotel Alliance, Anantara properties can now be found in Abu Dhabi, Bali, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, the Maldives, Mui Ne and Phuket.
