MSC Cruises Welcomes New Flagship

Italian cruise line MSC Cruises has christened the MSC Preziosa, its latest Fantasia-class cruise ship and fleet flagship. Taking place in Genoa following a pre-inaugural voyage from St. Nazaire, she was named by godmother and screen legend Sophia Loren in a glittering ceremony featuring a gala dinner by chefs from popular Turin-based chain and MSC Cruises partner Eataly.

Invited guests, media, authorities and company executives were treated to entertainment from top Italian and international performers, a laser spectacular projected on and from the city’s La Lanterna lighthouse, as well as an original flash mob involving guests onboard the ship and fleetmates MSC Splendida and MSC Opera.

Originally ordered by Libyan line General National Maritime Transport Corporation before the country’s civil war and subsequently bought by MSC Cruises, the 139,400-GRT ship shares many sophisticated features with her sister ships MSC Fantasia, MSC Splendida and MSC Divina, including the designer suites of the MSC Yacht Club, the wellness facilities at the MSC Aurea Spa and the intimate Top 18 Exclusive Solarium. MSC Preziosa also bears exciting new facilities in the form of the first Eataly Restaurant at sea, the 120-meter Vertigo water slide and the Doremi Castle aquatic adventure park, one of the largest on a cruise ship.

MSC Preziosa will spend her maiden season cruising the western Mediterranean from Genoa, operating sailings ranging from 1- to 7-nights. On her voyages, she will visit ports including Barcelona, Marseille, Messina, Naples and Tunis.
