SAS Launches New European Service Concept

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has announced plans to revamp its intra-Europe offering, replacing the current service classes with 2 new service concepts. Under its “4Excellence Next Generation” business revitalization plan revealed last year, the Stockholm-headquartered airline will introduce SAS Go and SAS Plus from June 2013.

SAS Go passengers will benefit from 1 piece of complimentary checked luggage, coffee and tea, with the option to purchase food onboard flights. SAS Plus passengers receive additional benefits in the form of a second piece of checked luggage, fast-track security, lounge access, complimentary meals onboard and double points under the airline’s Euro Bonus frequent flyer programme.

The airline is also promising a revamp of the inflight catering. Traditional airline food will be replaced with a cafe concept and new item range available to all passengers onboard SAS flights.

Facing intensified competition from low cost carriers and bigger rivals, SAS Scandinavian Airlines is in the midst of transforming its business to compete. Unprofitable routes from its main hubs Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm have been trimmed from the network, while key functions are being centralized and downsized.
