Shangri-La Enters Turkey With Istanbul Hotel

Istanbul welcomes its newest luxury hotel this week with the opening of the new Shangri-La Bosphorus Istanbul. The 186-room hotel is set on the site of a former tobacco warehouse on the European side of the Bosphorus Strait between the Dolmabahce Palace and Naval Museum, overlooking the city’s domes, minarets and green hills.

A 6-storey Neo-classical facade from the 1930s and 2 carefully preserved Sycamore trees in the courtyard greet guests as they arrive. Inside, the hotel takes design cues from a mix of European, Asian and Turkish design with swathes of marble, glittering chandeliers and a grand staircase winding down the hotel’s dome-shaped atrium lit by a natural skylight and a massive Bohemian chandelier that rains crystals. Over 1,000 pieces of European and Asian artwork, including a stunning 18-meter tall silk painting commissioned for the hotel and an exquisite southern Chinese lacquer carving, adorn the Shangri-La Bosphorus Istanbul.

The artistry continues in the guestrooms and suites, where a collection of unique pieces inspired by the cityscape has been commissioned. Offering dazzling Bosphorus views and featuring a rich teal, creme and caramel colour scheme, each accommodation is furnished with top-quality amenities including luxury bedding, Turkish marble bathroom with Bvlgari amenities, flatscreen television and the brand’s standard complimentary high-speed Internet access. Guests staying in the suites can enjoy the outdoors and surrounding views from the comfort of private terraces.

Shangri-La Bosphorus Istanbul’s signature restaurant IST TOO offers a uniquely satisfying combination of Asian and Mediterranean cuisines, while the brand’s premier Chinese restaurant Shang Palace provides exceptional Cantonese delights in an elegant setting with a spacious main dining hall, private dining room, wine room and intimate booths. Classic European bespoke furniture and plush sofas in the Lobby Lounge allow guests to relax to the sound of classical and jazz music while enjoying house-made pastries and over 100 types of Chinese teas poured by the hotel’s tea master and the adjacent Le Bar serves traditional cocktails and spirits with accompanying tapas and mezzes.

2 ballrooms and 9 function rooms with spacious pre-function areas offer business travellers and meeting planners state-of-the-art conferencing technology, including wireless internet access, large plasma display units, satellite conferencing and simultaneous translation systems. The hotel also features Shangri-La’s  CHI spa presenting Asian and Turkish treatments, with extensive hammam facilities. A health club with sauna, Jacuzzi and steam rooms, and a heated indoor pool are also available to hotel guests.

Shangri-La Bosphorus Istanbul becomes the brand’s second property in Europe after the Shangri-La Paris. Later this year, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts will also welcome the new Shangri-La at The Shard London, located within the tallest building in the European Union.
