IHG Adds Heritage Hotel To Asian Portfolio

Global hospitality giant InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened its 200th property in Greater China – the InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin. Located near the trendy Xintiandi district and Huaihai Road, the hotel is housed within a heritage building that started out as the city’s State Guest House and later became the local headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party. Dignitaries hosted include Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, earning the property a heritage designation from IHG, a title that is shared by only 6 other properties around the world.

To maintain its old-age charm, the 238-room hotel’s decor remains classical with a European-style red brick exterior and plush, dark wood interiors. The guestrooms and suites are elegantly appointed with luxury bedding, oversized bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, satellite television with iPod docking station and Bose sound system, high-speed internet access, a generous work space, direct-dial telephone, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities.

InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin offers an array of eclectic dining experiences reflecting its heritage and location. La Rue French Brasserie is the latest venue to serve authentic bistro meals in the heart of the former French Concession, while Xin Yuan Lou’s historical villa setting harks back to the golden age of Shanghai. Complementing both restaurants is the elegant Lobby Lounge, ideal for a leisurely cocktail, wines by the glass and light snacks.

The 405-square meter Grand Ballroom and its spacious foyer provides a charming location for banquets and cocktail receptions, with accompanying meeting rooms for smaller events and functions. For wellness and recreation, the onsite health and fitness center offers a pampering spa, heated indoor swimming pool and fitness center with cardio, strength and weight training equipment.

InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin is IHG’s 30th hotel in Shanghai, where it also operates the InterContinental Shanghai Expo and InterContinental Shanghai Pudong under the brand. The company has ambitious plans for the China market, developing the Hualuxe Hotels & Resorts brand specifically for the Chinese traveller with 12 management contracts signed to date.
