Etihad Boosts Inflight Entertainment With Live Television

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has boosted its inflight entertainment offering with the introduction of 8 live television channels.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier began broadcasting BBC World News, BBC Arabic, Euronews and Sport 24 on 1 November 2013 across 21 widebody aircraft, with CNBC, NHK World Premium and CNN to follow later this month, while Sky News Arabia will be introduced in the coming months.

The announcement comes in time for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held this weekend at the emirate’s Yas Marina Circuit, for which Etihad Airways is the title sponsor. The race will be broadcast live onboard select flights and passengers will also be able to view the final 2 races of the Formula One season, as well as the ATP World Tour Finals, English Premier League and German Bundesliga football matches and Euroleague Basketball.

When completely rolled out by the end of 2014, 37 of Etihad’s widebody jets will offer the live television channels. The airline joins a select group of carriers, including regional rivals Emirates, Gulf Air and Turkish Airlines, in providing onboard real-time television content.
