Etihad To Add Dallas, Perth In 2014

Etihad Airways continues its expansion with the announcement of plans to connect the UAE capital to Dallas and Perth in 2014. The national airline of the UAE will fly 3 times weekly to Texas and daily to Western Australia, boosting the hub status of its Abu Dhabi base.

Abu Dhabi – Dallas/Fort Worth

Scheduled to launch of 3 December 2014, flight EY 161 will depart Abu Dhabi at 0945 hrs every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving in Dallas at 1630 hrs. The return flight, EY 160, takes off from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at 1845 hrs and lands back at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 1950 hrs the next day. A 3-class Boeing 777-200LR will be used on the route, offering 8 Diamond First suites, 40 Pearl Business and 189 Coral Economy class seats.

The flight timings will offer connections with Etihad’s codeshare partner American Airlines, bolstering the airline’s reach in the USA as it seeks to better compete against gulf rivals Emirates and Qatar Airways, both of whom have been on their own expansion paths in North America. Dallas joins Chicago, New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles (due to launch on 1 June 2014) as the airline’s fifth gateway in the USA.

Abu Dhabi – Perth

Etihad’s long-awaited service to Perth is set to launch on 15 July 2014 and will initially be served with a 2-class Airbus A330-200 jet carrying 262 passengers. Flight EY 486 takes off from Abu Dhabi at 2210 hrs, landing at Perth International Airport at 1310 hrs the next day, before turning around to operate the return EY 487 service at 1555 hrs to arrive back in Abu Dhabi at 2325 hrs.

The announcement will strengthen the airline’s alliance with Virgin Australia, with both carriers offering 35 flights a week between Australia and the UAE. It will also place further pressure on embattled Qantas, which has aligned with Dubai’s Emirates.
