Skymark Airlines Gets New Airbus Jets

Japan’s Skymark Airlines welcomed a pair of Airbus A330-300 aircraft to its fleet last week. Delivered from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, the jets herald the start of a major fleet expansion and modernization programme that will eventually see the arrival of 10 A330s and 6 double-deck A380s from the European manufacturer.

Registered JA330A and JA330B, the aircraft are configured in a low density, single-cabin seating layout. Named to evoke comparisons to the Green Cars on the Shinkansen high speed trains, 271 Green Seats are spread 2-3-2 across offering a 38-inch seat pitch and 19-inch seat width. Each seat also features a generous recline and leg rest.

Skymark Airlines will be looking to capture a larger slice of the domestic corporate travel market with its new offering. The airline will initially fly the jets on the route between Tokyo (Haneda) and Fukuoka from April 2014, before extending service to Sapporo and Okinawa at a later date.
