Qatar Airways Showcases New A380 First Class, To Upgrade Business Class On Select A320s, A330s

Qatar Airways continues to wow with investments to its premium product line-up, as it seeks to woo luxury travellers from rivals. The Oneworld member has revealed the luxury First Class suites that will become its flagship premium product onboard its Airbus A380 fleet and announced planned upgrades to its Business Class offering on selected Airbus A320 and A330 jets.

New A380 First Class

The new leather-clad First Class seat was presented by the airline’s Chief Executive Office Akbar Al Baker and Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit at the ITB Berlin tradeshow. Featuring a 90-inch seat pitch, space is plentiful with a large table and companion seat, with the seat transforming into a fully flat bed topped with luxury bedding. Individual 26-inch high-definition monitors deliver entertainment options on Qatar Airways’ Oryx inflight entertainment system.

8 suites will be fitted on the upper deck of the A380s in a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring an intimate and exclusive cabin ambiance. The first of 13 double-deck jets will be delivered to the airline this year, where it will be used on Doha – London (Heathrow) flights.

Full-Flat Beds for 16 A320s and A330-200s

Business Class seating on both the upgraded A320 and A330 aircraft recline into a 180-degree full-flat bed, providing superior sleep comfort and greater consistency with the Qatar Airways long-haul, widebody fleet. The seats will also feature 6-way adjustable headrests, 4-way adjustable lumbar support, privacy dividers and a variety of personal storage compartments.

15.4-inch high-definition monitors and touchscreen handset controllers (which also allow dual-screen mode) form part of the improved inflight entertainment option. Each seat will also have power outlets and USB connectivity for smart devices. Both the A330 and A320 will also be capable of sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages.

Qatar Airways will deploy the enhanced A320 aircraft to Geneva, Male, Milan, Rome, Tunis and Vienna, while the upgraded A330s will operate on the Barcelona, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka and Phuket routes.
