Revamped Carnival Legend Returns, Prepares For Australian Debut

Carnival Cruise Lines’ revamped Carnival Legend returned to service from its Tampa homeport with an array of new facilities onboard. The 88,500-GRT ship recently underwent an extensive drydock refurbishment in Freeport, Bahamas, with the upgrades aimed at the Australian market in preparation for her move down under later this year.

Heading the list of enhancements is the new WaterWorks aqua park, featuring a 65-meter twister slide, dual mini-racing slides and a children’s spray park. The highlight of the space is the “Green Thunder”, the line’s fastest slide propelling riders at 40 kilometers per hour with a 10-meter drop. Carnival also took the opportunity to update the ship’s swimming pools and gym equipment.

Indoors, the ship now features Carnival’s Playlist Productions big stage shows and the interactive “Hasbro, The Game Show” onboard. Carnival Legend also receives the line’s popular RedFrog Pub and Bonsai Sushi, a full-service Asian dining restaurant serving sushi, sashimi and rolls. Retailing confections, apparel and novelty items, the new Cherry on Top store is expected to be popular with cruisers, who will also experience new carpeting, tiling and wall coverings throughout the ship’s public spaces.

From Tampa, Carnival Legend resumes her 7-night Caribbean itinerary until 17 August 2014. She then embarks on 2 repositioning sailings via the Panama Canal and Long Beach to Sydney, where she will join sister ship Carnival Spirit. Operating a seasonal schedule down under, she sails 8- to 12-night cruises to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.
