Virgin Limited Edition To Acquire South African Wine Estate

Virgin Limited Edition is to add a new wine estate in South Africa to its already eclectic portfolio. Sir Richard Branson’s collection of award-winning luxury retreats has reached a preliminary agreement to purchase the Mont Rochelle Hotel and Mountain Vineyard from the family of late South African entrepreneur Miko Rwayitare.

With a history dating as far back as 1688, Mont Rochelle boasts a picturesque 22-room hotel and private vineyard set against a mountain backdrop. Its location in the heart of Franschhoek, renowned for its winelands and scenery, attracts food and wine lovers visiting the greater Cape Town area.

The luxury accommodations span across 3 wings of the hotel, offering the feel of being in a private manor house. Complementing it is award-winning dining and 39 hectares of vineyards, where visitors can embark on private tours and tastings with the resident winemaker.

Following the completion of the purchase, Virgin Limited Edition will close the hotel for refurbishment. Mont Rochelle is expected to reopen and officially join the collection in August 2014. The hotel joins the Ulusaba Private Game Reserve as the collection’s second member in South Africa, alongside other gems such as the Mahali Mzuri tented camp in Kenya and the Caribbean’s Necker Island.
