Shangri-La Comes To London In Style With City’s Tallest Hotel

Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, renowned around the world for its luxury properties and Asian hospitality, heralded its arrival to the UK today with the debut of the new Shangri-La at The Shard, one of the year’s highly anticipated hotel openings. With a ‘sky lobby’ located on level 35 of London’s newest and most striking skyscraper, the hotel boasts unmatched views of the British capital from its guestrooms and public spaces extending upwards to the 52nd floor of The Shard.

Oriental elegance meets cutting-edge modernity at the 202 guestrooms and suites, boasting views of the city and the historic counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Each is generously furnished with exquisite materials including marble, silk and contemporary light wood, with thoughtful features such as the patented, body-contouring Shangri-La Bed, heated flooring, Acqua Di Parma amenities and mirrors with integrated television screens in the luxurious bathrooms, as well as complimentary high-speed internet access. The hotel will be opening its accommodation in phases, with 3 signature suites under development until September 2014.

Shangri-La at The Shard introduces 3 new wining and dining options to London. The signature restaurant and lounge TING derives its name from the Chinese word for ‘living room’, where guests can indulge in its modern European menu with an Asian twist to spectacular views of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf amongst other landmarks. Closer to the ground, LANG (named after the Chinese word for ‘pathway’) offers artisanal snacks and deli favorites for dine-in or takeaway. When it opens later this month, GONG will become London’s highest bar with its 52nd floor location and lend a touch of chinoiserie from the unique architecture featuring interlocking wooden brackets and intimate chambers.

Paying homage to its Asian roots, the conference and event facilities are named after the first 3 of 5 constant virtues of Confucianism. The largest room, Ren (benevolence), can accommodate up to 140 guests, while Li (propriety) is ideal for private gatherings of up to 30 guests and Yi (righteousness) offers an intimate boardroom setting for 10 delegates. Leisure amenities at the hotel include a 24-hour gymnasium and London’s highest infinity pool 52 storeys above the high street.

Shangri-La at The Shard becomes the brand’s third European property, joining sister hotels in Istanbul and Paris.
