Viking Ocean Cruises Announces Plans For Second And Third Ships

Viking Ocean Cruises, one of the cruise industry’s most highly-anticipated new cruise line, has announced plans for its second and third ships. Designed and built to the same specifications as the 930-guest Viking Star (currently under construction in Italy), the new Viking Sky and Viking Sea, will join the cruise line’s fleet in 2016 as it looks to scale up its ocean programme.

Both ships will feature veranda cabins, infinity pool and a main swimming pool with retractable roof, as well as a Nordic spa and snow grotto. Passengers will be able to enjoy the facilities on popular itineraries in Scandinavia including the 15-day Viking Homelands itinerary, while 2 new itineraries will be introduced for 2016.

Beginning in Bergen, the 15-day Into the Midnight Sun itinerary will bring cruisers to the scenic Norwegian fjords, entering the Arctic Circle before moving back down towards the Shetland and Orkney Islands, with a final call at Edinburgh before finishing in London. The sailing can be combined with a Viking Homelands itinerary to create a longer, 29-day Baltic Jewels & the Midnight Sun voyage.

Already a leading river cruise operator, Viking has ambitions to become a major player in the luxury ocean cruise market. Promising all-inclusive packages and exotic port calls, the line is aiming to attract experienced travellers and compete against established players such as Crystal Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Silversea Cruises and Seabourn.
