Norwegian Jewel Revitalized In Preparation For Alaskan Season

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the return of the Norwegian Jewel following a 2-week dry dock enhancement in time for her upcoming summer season in Alaska. The 2005-built ship now boasts new dining concepts found on the line’s latest vessels, whilst also receiving technical modifications to boost her green credentials.

New onboard is O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, Norwegian Cruise Line’s popular Irish pub first introduced on Norwegian Epic. The Brazilian-style steakhouse, Moderno Churrascaria, is now located on Deck 13 and complemented by the adjacent Sugarcane Mojito Bar, which debut earlier this year on Norwegian Getaway. The Java Cafe will also offer cannoli and cupcakes from Carlo’s Bake Shop by Buddy Valastro, star of TLC’s “Cake Boss” and “Next Great Baker”.

Additional guest area enhancements include updates to the Casino and Photo Gallery, replacement of carpeting, flooring and windows, whilst the pool deck and galley areas have also been updated. The interactive touchscreen digital signage system will also be added to the ship over the summer, allowing guests to order specialty items, get directions and reserve dining and shore excursions by scanning their stateroom key.

Norwegian Jewel is now more environmentally-friendly after being outfitted with Green Tech Marine Scrubbers that reduce fuel emissions and overall energy consumption. Further improving fuel efficiency, her Azipod propulsion system has also received a hydrodynamic upgrade and state-of-the-art silicone paint used on the hull, while shore power connectivity will reduce the need for engine use in port. Additional significant technical and safety updates include maintenance to lifeboat and tender boat release systems, thrusters and stabilizers and the replacement of ballast and bilge piping.

Cruisers joining Norwegian Jewel on her 7-day Alaska cruises will be first to experience the enhanced ship from 17 May 2014. Sailing roundtrip from Seattle, port calls on this itinerary include Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria in British Columbia. She then repositions to Houston for a series of Western Caribbean cruises in the winter, visiting Belize, Cozumel and Honduras’ Banana Coast.
