Etihad Airways A380 Makes American Debut

Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways celebrated the North American debut of its flagship Airbus A380 this week, raising the bar on luxury travel between New York and the Middle East. The airline’s inaugural service by the double deck jet touched down at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport yesterday morning, introducing its luxurious The Residence private suite to the Big Apple.

Replacing the Boeing 777 on one of 2 daily services between the capital of the United Arab Emirates and New York, the outbound flight EY 103 sees the A380 depart Abu Dhabi at 0320 hrs to land in the USA at 0910 hrs. The return flight, EY 102, takes off from New York at 1430 hrs for a 1215 hrs arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport one day later.

Since entering service, Etihad’s A380 has revolutionized the industry with its game-changing onboard product. Designed with luxury in-mind, the aircraft’s upper deck boasts a single 3-room The Residence suite served by butlers trained at London’s Savoy Academy, 9 First Apartments offering private living spaces and 70 staggered pod-style Business Studios, as well as the onboard social space The Lobby. 417 Economy class seats occupy the main deck, ergonomically sculpted with a unique fixed wing headrest.

New York joins London (Heathrow) and Sydney to become Etihad Airways’ third A380 destination. In 2016, the airline is set to expand the A380s’ exclusive network with the addition of Mumbai and Melbourne.
