First Next-Generation Holiday Inn Express Hotels Unveiled

Hospitality giant InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has unveiled the first Holiday Inn Express hotels to feature its next-generation guestrooms and innovations. Guests checking into the Holiday Inn Express Grimsby, Holiday Inn Express London Park Royal, Holiday Inn Express London Ealing and Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth North can now immerse themselves in the new brand experience, which the company says is based wholly on guest insights.

Focusing on the guestroom and leveraging heavily on technology, the properties will offer members of the IHG Rewards Club online and mobile check-in via the IHG app prior to arrival with the option to select their room subject to availability. At the reception, guests are always shown their room location and its proximity to stairs, elevators and emergency exits via tablet screens.

Inside, vibrant colours and a larger, cozier bed take centerstage. The latter is inspired by business class airplane seats and features a noise-reducing headboard, while smart televisions allow for the streaming of media from guests’ personal devices or apps such as Netflix through the complimentary Wi-Fi. Each room also sees the traditional workdesk removed and replaced with an ergonomic chair and table that can be moved around to take advantage of the multiple USB charging ports.

The next-generation Holiday Inn Express hotels will also see a revamped dining offering in the form of the Express Café & Bar, an integrated lobby and continental style café/ bar. Guests can choose to have their localised Express Start breakfast onsite or ‘to go’ by grabbing a take away bag.

IHG is aiming for at least 1 in 4 European Holiday Inn Express hotels to feature the next brand experience within the next 3 years as it progressively rolls out the changes across its portfolio. Introduced in 1991, the Holiday Inn Express brand is one of the fastest growing in the hospitality industry with 2 new hotels opening each week across the world on average. Within Europe, the brand currently has 220 hotels open and 40 more in the development pipeline.
