IHG Reaches Milestone With 5,000th Opening

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) cemented its position as one of the leading hotel companies in the world with the opening of its 5,000th hotel, attaining a milestone matched only by 2 other competitors. The 293-room Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York has the distinction of being the group’s 5,000th property, as well as being the third Hotel Indigo in New York City.

Since 2013, IHG has steadily increased its portfolio by 1,500 hotels and now boasts a presence in 100 countries worldwide and 90 million members in its rewards program. Its brand portfolio now comprises 10 brands, including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, a relaunched Holiday Inn family, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.

The company has also developed or bought 3 new brands in the last 3 years. In 2012, it launched HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts, the first in the world to be specifically-designed for Chinese travellers. The same year, IHG debuted EVEN Hotels aimed at the wellness traveller with guestrooms featuring exercise equipment, prominent gymnasiums and nutritious menus. In 2015, the company acquired Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, the industry’s largest independent boutique hotel operator which it hopes to expand worldwide.

IHG is set to continue its growth with another 1,300 hotels in the development pipeline concentrated in 10 key markets, including China, the Middle East, UK and USA.
