Norwegian Cruise Line Plans Massive Refurbishment

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today announced “The Norwegian Edge”, a significant 2-year, USD 400 million enhancement program that promises to introduce a new standard of excellence to the guest experience. Covering 9 ships in the fleet, the line will make upgrades to technical and guest-facing elements, while also adding new developments to its exclusive private destinations.

Contemporary Decor and Focus on Culinary Excellence

The upgrade program began in October 2015 with the drydock of the Norwegian Epic, where the ship underwent a complete refresh that saw her debut new venues such as The Cavern Club and makeover La Cucina. A new look was also given to Cagney’s Steakhouse, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria, The Manhattan Room and the Garden Café, as well as facilities at The Haven.

Norwegian Gem followed in November, debuting significant enhancements including a complete makeover of the Bliss Lounge, an extensive interior decor refresh to reflect a more contemporary look with new furniture and flooring in all specialty restaurants, bars, lounges and several complimentary outlets. Outdoors, new teak flooring has been installed, complemented by new pool deck furniture, while The Haven gains more shaded areas cabanas and lounge chairs. Passengers also benefit from the installation of interactive digital signage and wayfinding technology.

7 more ships will undergo their drydock refurbishment to gain “The Norwegian Edge” in the coming months. These include Pride of America (Q1 2016), Norwegian Sun (Q2 2016), Norwegian Dawn (Q2 2016), Norwegian Spirit (Q1 2017), Norwegian Sky (Q1 2017) and Norwegian Pearl (Q1 2017) and Norwegian Jade (Q1 2017).

New for 2016, all NCL ships now offer upgraded complimentary dining room menus and the addition of optional à la carte priced items in the main dining rooms. Carefully developed by the line’s culinary team, the new menu offers an increased choice encompassing traditional grill favorites and more seafood selections. Specialty dining will also be enhanced with menus introduced on Norwegian Escape at the signature Cagney’s Steakhouse, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Moderno Churrascaria and Teppanyaki.

New Features for Great Stirrup Cay, Harvest Caye

As part of “The Norwegian Edge”, NCL has further expanded plans for its privately-owned destinations in the Caribbean. The line is developing Harvest Caye in Belize into a 75-acre resort-style experience featuring an expansive pool, lagoon for water sports, private luxury cabanas and exclusive beach. New features are also in store for Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, with several new offerings and high quality amenities set to debut to guests by Q1 2017.
