Marriott International To Rebrand 5 Japanese Hotels

Marriott International has signed an agreement to expand its portfolio in Japan, assuming management of 5 Mori Trust Group properties located in scenic destinations.

Currently operating under the local Laforet brand, the hotels will transition to the company’s flagship Marriott Hotels & Resorts brand after undergoing renovations. The deal represents a 30 percent boost and adds approximately 840 guestrooms to the company’s portfolio in the country.

Located in Shiga prefecture, the Laforet Biwako will become the Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel, while the Laforet Nanki-Shirahama in Wakayama prefecture will be reflagged as the Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel. Laforet Yamanakako in Yamanashi prefecture will be renamed the Fuji Marriott Hotel, with Shizuoka prefecture’s Laforet Shuzenji rebranded as the Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji and the Laforet Naka-Karuizawa in Nagano prefecture will become the Karuizawa Marriott Hotel.

Marriott International currently operates 15 hotels in Japan across 5 brands (Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott and Autograph Collection), including the Tokyo Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station Hotel.
