Four Points By Sheraton First To Cuba With Havana Opening

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide marked a historic milestone this week by becoming the first US-based hospitality company to operate in Cuba in nearly 60 years with the opening of the Four Points by Sheraton Havana, its first hotel in the Caribbean state.

Owned by Grupo Hotelero Gaviotaand and formerly the Hotel Quinta Avenida Habana, the property is located in the Miramar district of the Cuban capital, once a quiet residential area for the city’s elite and today the site of several embassies and consulates. Jose Marti International Airport is a short 25-minute drive from the hotel, while the UNESCO-listed old town is easily accessible by Havana’s charming classic American automobiles.

With an emphasis on approachable design and stylish comfort, Four Points by Sheraton Havana offers 186 spacious guestrooms and suites. Each has been refurbished and refreshed with modern conveniences including comfortable bedding, a bathroom with separate bathtub and shower, flatscreen television, Wi-Fi, direct-dial telephone, electronic safe, minibar and coffee-/tea-making facilities.

An impressive lineup of restaurants and bars offer local and international flavours, led by the formal-dining restaurant Don Quixote, an elegant venue in which guests can enjoy a la carte Cuban dishes. El Olivo is the hotel’s buffet restaurant with a distinct colonial ambience, while other casual dining venues include the Habana Coffee Shop and Montebarreto Snack Bar, complemented by the Lobby Bar Daiquiri for signature mojitos and refreshing local beers (the latest additions to the brand’s Best Brews programme). Rounding up the offerings is the 5th Avenue Cigar Bar where connoisseurs may sample some of Cuba’s best brands with the help of the resident cigar sommelier.

Facilities at the hotel include climate-controlled and outdoor function spaces that can accommodate up to 200 guests and a business center. The hotel also offers a fully-equipped spa offering massages and treatments, sauna and steam bath, as well as a free-form swimming pool to escape the tropical heat.

Four Points by Sheraton Havana will soon be joined by the iconic Hotel Inglaterra, which will operate under its Luxury Collection brand. The company has also signed a letter of intent to renovate and manage the Hotel Santa Isabel in Havana’s old town.
