Seabourn Christens New Fleet Addition

Seabourn Cruise Line has introduced the new Seabourn Encore to the world at a festive evening ceremony pier side in Singapore. Against the glittering lights of the city skyline, English soprano and West End star Sarah Brightman presided over the naming ceremony as godmother of the 600-guest ship.

The fourth and largest vessel to join the luxury line, the ship sailed into Asia from Italy, where she was constructed at builder Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard. Fleet mate Seabourn Sojourn joined in the celebrations at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, which showcased the Southeast Asian city-state’s colourful culture with traditional dragon and lion dances, acappella singing and robotic stilt walkers in glow costumes.

She retains the hallmarks of Seabourn’s yacht-style cruising with darker, more nautical colours and an added hint of  curvaceous appeal from renowned hospitality designer Adam Tihany. Every suite enjoys its own private balcony, while the public spaces have been enhanced with a much bigger area for new dining venues The Grill by Thomas Keller (in partnership with the three-Michelin-starred chef) and Sushi.

On-deck, there is a new relaxation and sunbathing area called The Retreat, while health-conscious cruisers can partake in the “Spa and Wellness with Dr Andrew Weil” mindful living program. Also new is the production show “An Evening with Tim Rice”, premiering on the ship’s maiden voyage in the presence of the celebrated lyricist.

Seabourn Encore departed after the naming ceremony on her inaugural voyage, a 10-day Gems of the Java Sea cruise visiting the Indonesian ports of Semarang, Surabaya and Komodo, enroute south to Australia. Down under, she will operate a series of cruises to the Great Barrier Reef and New Zealand in the winter before making a return journey to the Mediterranean Sea in summer.
