Now Open: W Shanghai – The Bund

Marriott International celebrated the opening of the new W Shanghai – The Bund, bringing the energy of W Hotels to China’s economic powerhouse.

Situated on the North Bund at the confluence of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, the hotel enjoys an enviable location with easy access to Shanghai’s major transport hubs as well as the old and new parts of town. Occupying a gleaming steel and glass tower, nearly all the guestrooms enjoy views of the river and the skyline of the Pudong financial district.

The design DNA honours the city’s cultural diversity, with neon light installations inspired by its traditional lilong alleys greeting arriving guests. The Welcome Desk features a kaleidoscopic fixture mirroring the constant flow of guests through the area, while the restroom walls are adorned with the unique ‘Melting Qipao’ motif.

W Shanghai – The Bund’s 374 guestrooms and suites continue the contemporary interior design. Each is appointed with the W signature bed adorned with a cheeky pillow in the shape of Shanghai’s famous Xiaolongbao dumpling and chopsticks, marble bathroom with Bliss amenities, the latest in-room entertainment and the W Mixbar, with the Cloud on the Bund suite featuring a LED wall and hanging bed and the over-the-top duplex Extreme WOW Suite boasting a lip-shaped hanging neon installation billowing dragon smoke.

Dining options include the all-day dining Kitchen Table and the brand’s Cantonese restaurant Yen with its attached destination cocktail bar Liquid. Promising to become one of Shanghai’s hottest new nightspots with a repertoire of international DJs is Woobar, together with the outdoor vibes of the WET Bar that serves as an extension of the WET deck for intimate events and outdoor parties. Part of the 5,800 square meters of function space at the hotel, conference planners also have use of the Great Room and 12 smaller meeting rooms illuminated by natural light. W Hotels’ signature AWAY Spa makes its Shanghai debut at the hotel, alongside an indoor/outdoor WET pool and the FIT gymnasium.

W Shanghai – The Bund joins Sister properties in Beijing and Guangzhou and is touted to become the brand’s global flagship property in an important market. Marriott International plans to continue W Hotels’ strong growth in China, with upcoming properties in Chengdu, Suzhou, Xi’an and Xiamen.
